Google Maps now shows Indian flag with the official map when you search ‘Bharat’

Google now shows Bharat as a “Country in South Asia" along with the Indian flag digital code when your search for it on Google Maps.

Amid the row of renaming the India name to Bharat, Google Maps has taken a surprising step. The search giant now shows Bharat as a “Country in South Asia” along with the Indian flag digital code when your search for it on Google Maps.

If you type ‘Bharat’ on the search box of Google Maps in Hindi or English and enter then the result will show a Indian Flag symbol along with the official map of India. Moreover, in the quick fact section it mentions, “India, officially the Republic of India, is a country in South Asia. ”

With this, Users can see the same result of the official Indian map when they search for either “Bharat” or “India.” If you type in the Hindi word for Bharat in Google Maps then Google shows the result for “भारत”, on the other hand, if you are using English language then the search results for “India” are shown.

Apart from Google Maps, Google seems to be offering similar results to user for both “Bharat” and “India” in various products including  Search, Translator, News, and others. While there is not any official word from Google on this yet, a simple search reveals the changes Google may have made in the background.

Especially for Google users in India, if you minutely observe in Hindi language, Google is now preferring to use “भारत” instead of “इंडिया”. Also, the English to Hindi translation always showcased India in English and “भारत” in Hindi.

Meanwhile, the central government of India has started to use the term “Bharat” instead of “India” in official communications. Recently, the railway ministry reportedly used the word Bharat instead of India in a proposal to the Union Cabinet.
