Berhampur: In a shocking incident, an elderly man was cudgelled to death by none other than his son over a petty incident in Lathi village under Berhampur Sadar Police Station area in Ganjam district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Abhi Nayak (70).
As per the report, a verbal duel erupted between Abhi and his son Simanchal Nayak late last night after the latter came to his home in an inebriated condition. Neighbours of the family said the argument took place after the accused asked for money and the victim refused.
Later, in a fit of rage, the accused took out a cudgel and started beating up his father mercilessly killing him on the spot.
Locals nabbed the accused immediately after the incident while trying to escape from the spot to hand over to police.
An investigation is underway in the incident.
