Youth attacked in Nayagarh for opposing ganja traders, hospitalized

Nayagarh: A college student sustained critical injuries after being attacked by a group of miscreants over spreading awareness against ganja trade and consumption in Parbatipur village under Fategarh Police Station here last night.

The victim has been identified as Laba Mohapatra, a Plus-III Final Year student of Pathani Samanta College.

As per the report, the victim was returning home after completing some work in a nearby village last night when a group of armed miscreants waylaid him near Bhapur-Parbatipur Bypass and attacked with sword and other sharp weapons. The attackers fled from the spot after the victim sustained grievous injuries to his head and hand and turned unconscious.

Some locals rushed Laba to Bhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) and then shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and later to SCB Medical in Cuttack.

While Fategarh Police is investigating into the incident, locals have claimed the hand of the aides of a local ganja peddler in the attack. They informed that the victim was creating awareness among the people in the area against ganja consumption and opposing the narcotics trade.
