Boy critical as nurse leaves broken syringe needle inside his body

Angul: In a bizarre kind of incident, a nurse left broken needle of a syringe inside the body of a minor boy while administering an injection to him in a hospital in Athamallik area which left him critical on Thursday.

As per the report, one Sitakant Panda of Mohankhali village under Athamallik block had admitted his 3-year-old son Swayamjit Panda to Madhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) around one month ago due to viral fever.

Sitakant’s family alleged that a nurse at the CHC had administered an injection to the patient at that time and got a syringe needle broken and stuck inside his pelvis. The child constantly complained about the pain after returning home and turned critical yesterday after the syringe came out of his private part to get visible.

While the victim was rushed to the CHC yesterday the doctors shifted him to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) of late for better treatment.

The incident has triggered resentment among the patients in the area who have criticized the lackadaisical attitude of the health staff.
