Woman’s body carried in cot for 8 kms for funeral in Odisha

Bhawanipatna: In a shocking incident, family members carried the body of a woman in a cot to her village for the performance of the last rites after an ambulance left it midway to her home in M Rampur block of Kalahandi district yesterday.

As per the report, the deceased identified as Jamunti Majhi (30) of Bagabila village had been to her farmland to crop paddy saplings in the noon yesterday. However, he reported sickness while working and fell unconscious.

Due to the unavailability of a motorable road some villagers carried the victim in a cot for 8 kilometres to get access to an ambulance which took her to Balangir Hospital where she succumbed under treatment.

But the plight of the villagers didn’t end there as the ambulance which carried the body of the deceased dropped it eight kilometres away from Bagabila village.

Villagers carried the body again in a cot for 8 kilometres to reach the funeral venue.

The incident has sparked resentment among the villagers who allege that despite repeated complaint administration is apathetic towards setting up road connectivity to the village.
