Baripada: In a shocking incident, a woman was gruesomely murdered by slitting open her throat for allegedly practicing sorcery in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
The deceased woman has been identified as Khairi Mohanta of Sarisua village of Sarata police limits of the district.
According to reports, Kalia Mohanta of the same village was childless and suspected Khairi’s involvement in sorcery for his condition. Holding a grudge on the Khairi, Kalia and his brother Balia attacked her when she had gone to fetch water from tube well on tuesday evening. The two brothers slit open Khairi’s throat and she succumbed to the injuries thereafter.
The brother duo absconded from the spot after committing the crime.
The villagers discovered the dead body early morning on Wednesday and informed the police.
On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent for an autopsy. A team of sniffer dogs and forensic experts have reached the spot for further investigation.
Meanwhile a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
