Wild elephant tramples man to death in Balangir

Balangir: In yet another case of human-animal conflict, a wild jumbo trampled a farmer to death in Dharuradadar village under Agalpur block of Balangir district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Sriram Biswal of the same locality.

Sriram, had been to look after his farmland early in the morning when the pachyderm attack took place. A tusker which had sneaked into the village last night in search of food pounced on the victim and trampled him badly to kill on the spot.

Family members of the deceased held a protest in the village and demanded compensation for their loss.

The locals also alleged the forest department’s negligence in dealing with the incidents of elephant incursion in the village which they said is resulting in such deaths.
