Wild bears frequent Malkangiri village after sunset in search for food: Watch

Malkangiri: The villagers of MV 7 in this district of Odisha are in a state of panic for the last several days after a number of sloth bears were spotted roaming around the village. The bears are not only roaming in the road but they are also trying to enter the houses in search of food. And all these bear activities are witnessed in the MV 7 village that is barely 7 kms away from the district head quarter.

As per reports, the locals of the area cannot step out of their house after the evening due to fear of bear attacks and they said the wild animals are heading towards the human habitats in search of food.

The bears come out after sunset and roam around till late at night before leaving for forest in the morning due to which the villagers are in a state of fear. They are scared of venturing outside their homes in the evening. They rather prefer to stay inside the locked door to be safe.

While the villagers have demanded the Forest Department to disperse the wild bears, the department is yet to take any action.

Sloth bears are spotted in large numbers in the Malkangiri forest division, known for its rich flora and fauna. The dense forest area is also home to leopards, spotted and barking deer, wolves and wild pigs, say reports.
