Vajpayee’s Ashes to be immersed in Puri Mahodadhi on Aug 23

 

Bhubaneswar: The ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be immersed in the Mahodadhi at Puri in Odisha on Thursday, said State BJP spokesperson Golak Mohapatra.

In a press briefing here on Monday evening, Mohapatra said that State party president Basanta Panda would collect urns containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the party President Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday and arrive in Bhubaneswar in the evening.

The ashes will be kept at the party’s state headquarters office in Bhubaneswar for the general public, he added.

“The ashes of the late Prime Minister will be taken in a procession to Puri via Uttara Chhak and the Old Bhubaneswar-Puri road on Thursday and later, immersed at Mahodadhi of the holy town in traditional rituals,” Mohapatra said.

Sources said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah will hand over urns containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to state presidents of the party in New Delhi today.
