Stranded Malaysian Ship Is Likely To Be Repaired In Next 10 Days; Puri District Administration

Puri: Puri District Administration today said that the stranded Malaysian ship will is likely to be repaired in the next 10 days. The officials also denied any chances of leakage of oil from the cargo for the time being.

The ship was veered off its sea route towards the coast at Rajhans near Chilika Lake on August 7.

Puri SP Umasankar Dash said that the concerned police station has verified the details of the ship and the crew members as well. “The crew members included seven from Myanmar, one each from Malaysia and India. We have also communicated the Visakhapatnam based agency which had hired the ship. The agency has sent a technical team which is currently working to repair the ship,” said Dash.

The Indian Coast Guard has earlier apprehended threat to the ecosystem of the Chilika lake in case of leakage of oil. As per reports, the ship has a stock of 30000 litres of diesel, 1000 litres of lubricant and 200 litres of hydraulic oil.  

“The ship has tilted about 18 degrees and the technical team is inspecting the tilt every hour. We urge the people not to hamper the work of the technical team by thronging the place in large number,” added the SP.
