Steel plant explosion in Jajpur leaves 5 workers injured

Jajpur: Staffs were left in a state of panic in the Maithan Steel Plant at Kalinganagar in the district today afternoon, after an explosion at its Steel Melt Shop (SMS) left at least five workers injured.

As per the report, the explosion took place suspectedly due to a technical glitz the reason of which is yet to be ascertained during the rush hour of the day. A group of workers engaged by JD Construction who were busy in work at the time of the incident suffered burn injury turned critical.

The victims identified as Umanath Yadav (40), Umesh Ray (38), Manas Mallik (21), Sunil Majhi (24) along with another fellow worker were immediately rushed to SCB Medical in Cuttack by the plant authorities for treatment.

An inquiry has been ordered by the plant officials into the incident.
