SOUTHCO starts power disconnection of defaulting consumers in Odisha

Berhampur: Tightening the noose around the power defaulters, the SOUTHCO today launched power disconnection drive in at least eight districts of Odisha under it today.

As a punitive measure, the disconnection squad of the utility has already started the drive in Ankoli, Gailundi and Kamapalli areas in the first phase under the supervision of Prabhat Kumar Kar, Executive Engineer, Berhampur Division-1 this morning.

Notably, issuing an ultimatum SOUTHCO had earlier urged the consumers to clear their arrears by February 15 to avoid power supply disruption. The step is aimed at discouraging the deliberate default in payment of electricity bills, it had mentioned in the notice.

Notably, while SOUTHCO is currently having about 22 lakh consumers in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur districts, out of them around 15.73 lakh have arrears of Rs 1,357 crore.
