Rail Roko at Bamur Station disrupts train service in Angul

Angul: Commuters faced a tough time at Bamur Railway Statio here today as locals under the aegis of Railway Users Consultative Committee observed a ‘Rail Roko’ demanding stoppage of two Express trains at the station. The ‘Rail Roko’ was observed as a part of the 12-hour Bamur and Kishorenagar Bandh over the same demand.

Members of the committee sat on the railway track at Bamur Station in the morning and demanded immediate fulfilment of their long-standing demand for the stoppage of Puri-Sambalpur Inter City Express and Balangir-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express for the benefit of the locals. They also alleged that the Railway Department is paying no heed to the legitimate demand despite repeated appeal.

Due to the ‘Rail Roko’ several trains which were scheduled to pass through the route were either cancelled or diverted as a precautionary measure by the railway department.

Similarly, life came to a standstill in Bamur and Kishorenagar due to the dawn-to-dusk band during the raid as the committee members resorted to picketing and staged road blockades.

Meanwhile, student, intellectuals and several other groups have extended their support to the ‘Rail Roko’ and ‘bandh’ today.
