Police officer in Odisha falls victim to land fraud, Rs. 20 lakh siphoned off

Khurda: A senior police official fell victim to land fraud in Bharatpur area of Odisha’s Khurda district. The cop has been duped Rs 20 lakh in the land fraud case.

According to sources, the victim police official, identified as Bibhuti Bhusan Rout saw an advertisement of land sale on newspaper. He contacted the person, who promised to give a piece of land at Jatni area of the district. Bibhuti Bhusan also paid an advance of Rs 20 lakh to the accused.

Reportedly, the accused and the cop also registered the land on his name at the sub-registry office. However, Bibhuti Bhusan filed a complaint about land fraud at the Bharatpur police station on September this year.

Based on the complaint, the police arrested the owner of the land, identified as Durgacharan Pradhan. Further investigation is underway.
