People flood meat, fish stalls on the occasion of ‘Chhadakhai’ today

Bhubaneswar: Meat and fish shops witnessed serpentine queues across the state today as people returned to non-veg eating spree on the occasion of ‘Chhadakhai’, after a months’ gap for holy Kartik month, which came to an end yesterday with the celebration on Kartik Purnima.

While, meat and fish vendors witnessed a good business starting from the morning today, they claimed that the number of customers visiting their shops is relatively low due to Saturday. They expected a zoom in the selling tomorrow for Sunday.

On the other hand, the Habisyalis who were performing “Habisa” (a ritual performed mostly by widows) in the holy month of Kartik in the religious town Puri started returning home with the conclusion of their ‘brata’.

Odisha Government had made arrangements for the free stay of over 2600 Habisyalis in Puri town under ‘Habisyali Brata Yojana’ this year. Under the program the administration had set up shelters for the Habisyalis at Jagannath Ballav, Railway Tourist Complex, Municipal Kalyan Mandap and Railway Kalyan Mandap.
