Kartik Purnima Celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The auspicious Kartik Purnima, the full-moon day of the holy month of Kartika, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in Odisha on Friday.

People, particularly Hindus, thronged the water bodies including ponds, river banks etc to take a holy dip and perform Boita Bandana, a festival that celebrates the rich maritime history of the state on the occasion.

Banks of Daya, Kuakhai Rivers and Bindusagar Lake are some of the major spots for celebrations here. People from all age groups visited these water bodies and floated miniature boats early in the morning.

Similarly, Gadagadia ghat in Cuttack, Mahodadhi in Puri are major attractions for the devotees on the occasion.

People also offered prayers at Lingaraj temple in the city, Srimandir in the holy city of Puri and other pilgrimage centres across the state.

Kartik Purnima also coincides with the Bali Yatra in Cuttack, the largest open-air fair in the world.
