Parliament Winter Session: BJD to raise ‘special category status’ demand for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Expediting its long standing demand of special category state status for Odisha, the BJD parliamentary board will press for it during the upcoming Winter Session of the Parliament. The decision was taken at a meeting of the board here today.

The meeting which was held at Naveen Niwas and chaired by supremo Naveen Patnaik also decided upon the strategy of the conch party MPs during the Winter Session scheduled to start from December 11.

Informing on his party’s strategy to media persons soon after the meeting, senior BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pratap Deb said, apart from the special category state demand issues like Polavaram, Chhattisgarh’s barrage on Mahanadi, SC/ST scholarship funding pattern change and women’s reservation bill will also be raised during the session.

Notably, CM Naveen Patnaik has taken the initiative to ensure 33% reservation for women in the Parliament and all state assemblies. He has written letters to PM Narendra Modi and heads of all States and Union Territories in the country for their cooperation in this connection.
