Odisha Police SI in Vigilance net

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials on Tuesday arrested the Sub-Inspector (SI) of Dhauli police station on bribery charges. The arrested police official has been identified as Pradeep Mahalla.

According to reports, Mahalla had demanded Rs 50,000 from one Chittaranjan Pani to settle a civil dispute case with amicable negotiations. Initially, Pani denied to pay any bribe. However, Mahalla was adamant saying he won’t do the work and the bribe would be distributed with other senior officers. Finding no means, Pani agreed to give the bribe.

Pani first paid Rs 20,000 and then informed the anti-corruption officials when Mahalla gave him a phone call demanding the rest Rs 30,000.

The Vigilance officials, as per the plan, laid a trap today and caught the police SI red-handed.

Sources at the Vigilance department informed that the accused cop will be forwarded to the court later today.
