Odisha: PDS rice found dumped in Mayurbhanj forest

In a shocking incident, local authorities busted an illicit Public Distribution System (PDS) rice hoarding operation in a dense forest of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

Baripada: In a shocking incident, local authorities busted an illicit Public Distribution System (PDS) rice hoarding operation in a dense forest of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

According to reports, more than 30 sacks of PDS rice meant for the poor people were found stashed in various locations within the Bahubandha Patasa forest.

Some locals spotted the rice and informed about it to the local sarapanch who subsequently called the Udala police for investigation.

Suspecting their involvement, the some locals also had detained two youths, whom, they handed over to the police.

In course of investigation, cops ascertained that the youths were the employees of a rice mill situated nearby and they had stolen the rice to sell in the market. However, they could not as people noticed them. Both of them were forwarded to the court after their arrest, said sources.
