Odisha: Khordha Collector Constitutes Squads To Check Weight Of School Bags

Khordha: Khordha district collector has constituted three district-level squads to ensure implementation of the guidelines limiting the weight of school bags of students from class I to class X.

The squads will make surprise visits to all schools including private school from today and will verify the weight of the school bags.

The department of School and Mass Education had earlier asked the district collectors and District Education Officers (DEOs) conduct surprise inspections in schools across the state and take stringent action if anyone found violating the rule.

The Union Ministry for Human Resource Development in October last year directed all states to draw up guidelines to reduce the weight of schoolbags.

Weight of school bag (As per the order):

Class I and II: Should not be above 1.5 kg

Classes III to V: 2-3 kg

Classes VI-VII: 4 kg

Classes VIII-IX: 4.5 kg

Class X: 5 kg
