Odisha imposes Sec 144 around various temples

Bhubaneswar: On the auspicious occasion Amla Navami, the Cuttack and Puri district administration has enforced the prohibitory orders of Section 144 of CrPC at the famous shrine of Lord Dhabaleswar and on entry of people into the famous Sakhigopal Temple along with its adjoining areas.

Reportedly, this year also the devotees will not be allowed to witness Radhapada Darshan ritual in Sakhigopal temple on Amla Navami today. The darshan of the deity is not allowed for general public. However, all the rituals will be performed inside the temple.

Similarly, the prohibitory orders have also been clamped in and around Dhabaleswar temple, to prevent gathering of large crowd during the Panchaka, Anla Navami and Bada Osha festivals as per Covid protocols. Section 144 will be effective here from November 12 (today) till November 19 (Kartik Purnima).

It is to be noted that Anla Navami (Nov 12), Bada Osha (Nov 17) and Panchaka Brata, the last five days of the holy Kartik Month (Nov 15 to 19) are some of the major rituals where thousands of devotees visit the temples every year.

Anla Navami is observed on the ninth day of the waxing phase of moon (Kartik Shukla Nabami) during the Kartik month (October – November). On this day rituals are offered to Anla Plant mainly performed by women in Odisha.

The popular belief is that during the Kartik month gods and sages reside on the Amla Tree. Therefore worshipping Amla during the period can help in destroying sins and in fulfilling wishes. The Puranas also compare Amla Tree with Goddess Lakshmi. Amla is also known as Dhatri and thus the worship is essentially for prosperity and auspiciousness.
