Odisha Govt confirms 26 deaths in Cyclone Titli, floods

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday confirmed the death of as many as 26 people in the recent cyclonic storm Titli and consequent floods in the state.

Briefing mediapersons here, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said that of the 26 deaths, the highest number of deaths was reported from Gajapati district.

Sethi confirmed the death of 18 persons from Gajapati district followed by three from Ganjam and one each from Angul, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Nayagarh and Kandhamal districts.

As many as 15 persons died in the landslide in Mahendragiri hill in Gajapati district, while 5 numbers of causality each due to drowning and wall collapse and 1 due to falling of tree, he said.

About 57,08,000 people have been affected due to the natural disaster in 16 districts – Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Puri, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj and Angul.
