Odisha Endowment Commissioner Writes To ASI For Conservation Of Lingaraj Temple

Bhubaneswar: The Endowment Commissioner has written to the Director General of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) to initiate immediate measures for conservation and preservation of the Linagraj temple in the state capital.

Endowment Commissioner, Chitaranjan Mohapatra has also accused the ASI, Odisha Circle of negligence towards preservation of the 11th-century shrine. “The pinnacle of the main temple has developed cracks. Those who tie flags atop the temple every day had drawn the attention of the ASI authorities about the cracks. The cracks of Dadhinauti of the main temple requires immediate repair,” read the letter.

Mohapatra has also sought the immediate intervention of the higher authorities in protecting the monument. “The old temple suffers from neglect. There is no protection from rain, hot sun and other weathering agents. The old temple is becoming weak and dull due to weathering and effect of pollution and has degraded over time,” added the letter.
