Nuakhai fervour grips western Odisha, Nabanna offered to Goddess Samaleswari

Sambalpur: The mass agrarian festival ‘Nuakhai’ is being celebrated across the districts of western Odisha with religious fervour today.

As per the ritual, Nabanna or the newly harvested rice has been offered to the presiding deity of Sambalpur Goddess Samaleswari at 10.05 am today. Ahead of the offering of the Nabanna the ceremonial bath of Maa Samaleshwari was conducted and Goddess was draped in a new ‘patta’.

Devotees in large numbers thronged the temple to pay a darshan of the devotees which remained suspended till 11.15 for the performance of the rituals.

Meanwhile, CM Naveen Patnaik has wished good fortune for all on the occasion of the ‘Nuakhai’ and hoped that it would bring prosperity to the State.

Similarly, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also took to the Twitter earlier and posted a message in Odia with hearty greetings on this festival of farmers.
