Cuttack: In an irreparable loss to the Odia movie industry, eminent Odia singer Chitta Jena passed away at a private hospital in the city this morning. He was 76.
A recipient of ‘Prafulla Kar Samman’ for his outstanding contribution to the field of Odia music, Jena was ailing for past few days and his condition has deteriorated further in last 20 days, said his son-in-law and veteran Odia movie actor Mihir Das.
Jena had sung a number of hit songs during his long career which includes popular numbers like, ‘Mo Priya Tharu Kiye’, ‘Rupa heithiba labanyabati, ‘Ki Sundara Aaha Ki Aananda Maya’ and ‘Udi gala gendalia’.
Jena was born in the year 1941 and started his music career in 1974 with the movie ‘Mana Akasha’.
Ollywood cine fraternity has dubbed Jena’s demise as a massive loss to the state.
