Noted Jatra comedian Rabi Satpathy, the Padu Mohanty of Saguna Basichi Dena Melai, dies

Noted Jatra comedian Rabi Satpathy today passed away at his home at Agapada village in Jagatsinghpur district after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer.

Bhubaneswar: Noted Jatra comedian Rabi Satpathy today passed away at his home at Agapada village in Jagatsinghpur district after fighting a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 68.

According to family members, Rabi Satpathy was under medication ever since he was diagnosed with the third-stage liver cancer in June this year. He was taking only liquid diet.

It is to be noted here that Satpathy won the hearts of the Jatra lovers in his first opera itself where he played the character of Padu Mohanty in the super hit play ‘Saguna Basichi Dena Melai.’

Sibani Gananatya, Gouri Gananatya, Dhauli Gananatya, Konark Gananatya, Baghajatin Lokanatya, Indra Mahal, Rangamahal, Surya Mahal and Biswa Ranga Mahal are some of the many opera parties he had worked with.

Because of his charming and living acting skills, his name had become a household name among jatra audience.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on the jatra industry fraternity following Rabi Satpathy’s death.
