Niranjan Patnaik & son Odisha’s richest candidates in 4th phase polls

Bhubaneswar: Odisha PCC President Niranjan Patnaik and his son Navajyoti are the richest among candidates contesting in the state in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, said a report prepared by Odisha Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Niranjan is contesting from Bhandaripokhari and Ghasipura Assembly constituencies. And his son Navajyoti has been fielded as Congress’ Lok Sabha candidate for Balasore parliamentary constituency.

As per the report, 17 candidates in the fray for Lok Sabha have assets worth more than Rs 1 crore out of the 52 Lok Sabha candidates from the state. Navajyoti topped the list with assets more than Rs 104 crore. However, he has liabilities over Rs 107 crore.

Rabindra Jena, the BJD candidate for Balasore Lok Sabha seat and BJP’s Kendrapara Lok Sabha candidate Baijayant Panda are placed at second and third in the list with assets worth Rs 72 crore and Rs 57 crore, respectively.

As per the report among the MLA candidates Niranjan Patnaik is the richest with assets of over Rs 60 crore, followed by Congress’ Jagatsinghpur candidate Chiranjeev Biswal with assets worth more than Rs 33 crore and BJD’s Dharmasala candidate Pranab Balabantantray having assets over Rs 17 crore.
