Nandankanan Zoological Park celebrates 59th Foundation Day

Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoological Park celebrated its 59th Foundation Day today in Bhubaneswar.  Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray graced the occasion as the chief guest. On this occasion he felicitated 22 workers of the park for their commendable job.

Presently the zoological park houses about 3400 species of birds and animals. However, it will soon receive an Anaconda and Orangutan, intimated NZP authorities.  

The Forest minister intimated that within two to three months the NZP will receive an anaconda. Also steps are being taken to bring a giraffe and a zebra.

The chief wildlife warden Sandip Tripathy intimated that they have also undertaken the job of cleaning of the Kanjia Lake.

On this occasion the minister inaugurated the vulture conservation and breeding centre at the geological park. So far 12 vultures have been brought from Gwalior. Also the park has jackals, wild dogs of Mizoram and Himalayan bears.

This year more than 40 thousand people visited NZP during Christmas. And around 50 thousand visitors are expected during the New Year. Since huge visitors are coming from far places sufficient steps have been taken to host the guests during New Year, intimated the director. Nandankanan is also being beautified.
