Nabarangpur: In yet another horrifying incident, a 17-year-old tribal girl from Umerkote in Nabarangpur was purportedly raped, impregnated by a youth, and later tortured by his family members.
The victim is a student at Bijaraguda Ashram School under Tentulikhunti block of the district. She has accused Laxman Bhatra of Dabugaon block’s Parasabedha village of raping her in May last year.
Post the incident, the minor girl started living with her aunt at Rabanaguda. Even here, Laxman allegedly raped her on multiple occasions. After the girl’s health condition deteriorated, she was taken to a hospital where doctors revealed that she is four months pregnant.
As a reconciliatory measure, the parents of Laxman initially agreed to keep the girl at their house. However, the victim soon returned to her father’s place after being brutally tormented by Laxman’s parents.
The victim has filed a complaint at the Umerkote Police station. Accompanied by members of the NGO ‘Maa Ghara’, the girl also met the Nabrangpur SP, demanding justice.
