FCC, KIIT & KISS Announce Annual Award For Excellence In Journalism

New Delhi: With an aim to boost the coverage of SAARC nations (namely India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan , Sri Lanka and the Maldives) in the global media, the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of South Asia in collaboration with KIIT & KISS, has announced an annual award for excellence in the realm of Journalism.

The award, titled KIIT & KISS Annual FCC Award, will be given across the various categories of media viz. Print, Television, Photography, Online Journalism and others. Awards in each category will carry a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, a medal, and a citation.

In an official statement, the FCC said that the annual award will “acknowledge the best coverage of South Asia in the media outside the region by offering annual awards to individuals or teams that are adjudged as the best entries by an independent jury.”

For collaboration in establishing the awards, the FCC had invited founder of the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Achyuta Samanta.

“We are happy to collaborate with FCC for the Annual FCC Awards for Excellence in Journalism, which will be given to journalists across five different categories of media for their work out of India and other countries in South Asia,” said Dr. Samanta.

Founded in 1968, the FCC is a group of more than 500 journalists and photographers covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Afghanistan. Originally initiated by “Foreign” Correspondents and those working for news outlets outside the SAARC region, the club also has journalists from local papers, magazines, and television as its members.
