Kurnool quarry blast: Odisha CM announces compensation for kin of deceased

Bhubaneswar: Expressing his deep grief over the death of three Odia labourers who were killed in a blast at a stone quarry in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district on August 3, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for their family members.

Patnaik also assured that the state government will bear the treatment expenses of the victims.

Notably, Duryodhan Nahak and Manoranjan Nahak of Nuagaon and Bhima Nahak of J.Radhagovindpur under Rambha police limits in Ganjam district were among the 13 labourers who were killed in the blast.

The state government even had formed a two-member fact finding team led by Ganjam district labour officer. The team had visited Kurnool.

Meanwhile, their bodies have been brought to the state and will be consigned to the flames tomorrow, said sources.
