A story is like a house, it’s built. There is, of course, a beginning and an end, but between the two, there are some steps. Under the ocean, on the planet XYZ, in the middle ages, in a school? It is on this question that your whole story will flow. The place can be extraordinary, wacky or 100% modeled on reality. You’re the author, you’re the boss. Who? You must think about your characters, but especially your hero. What’s his name? What will it look like? Red, tall, puny, rich, intelligent, with a crooked nose? How does he dress? Does he have a mania, a patois? What does he do with his days? Does he have friends, a family? What does he like? What does he hate? What is his character? How old is he? A man, a woman, a porpoise? Is he alive, dead, between the two? An arm instead of the chin? Wow! There are possibilities! What? What is the trigger for your story? What is your hero looking for? What quest will he pursue? What is his irritant? His friend is in danger and he has to save him? It is said to have lost an object? There is a newcomer in his entourage? He has a hair pushing him on the tongue and he does not know how to get rid of it? What will be the disruptive event that will turn everything upside down? Something positive or negative? What actions or decisions will your hero take to achieve his ends?
