Dreaded criminal Sheikh Mehtab injured in police encounter in Kendrapara

Kendrapara: Continuing with the crackdown on history-sheeters in the State, Kendrapara Police arrested dreaded criminal Sheikh Mehtab during an encounter on Kansar-Gandakhia road here last night.

Acting upon a tip-off on the presence of Mehtab near Kansar at around 2 AM, a police team rushed to the spot and tried to intercept him while heading to his home at Jarapada. Finding police approaching him, the criminal opened fire at cops.

As police returned fire at Mehtab by exercising their right to self-defence, Mehtab sustained two bullet injuries to his right leg and one to his left to be caught.

Police also seized one 9mm pistol, Rs 2000 cash and a mobile phone from Mehtab’s possession during the encounter. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The held criminal, known to be an associate of gangster Tito is having over 25 criminal cases pending against him under different police stations in Kendrapara, Jajpur and Balasore districts, said police.

He was also involved in firing at Tinimuhani Ram Mandir president Bibekanand Moharana on July 13 this year.
