Balasore: The dead body of a girl was found hanging from a tree in a forest under Nilgiri police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district late on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Rashmi Marandi of Taratari village under Keshipur panchayat. Rashmi was a student and had gone missing on June 15.
The incident came to light after a foul smell started emanating from the spot after rainfall. This prompted a few locals, who later spotted the body hanging from a tree in the forest.
On intimation, police reached the spot and recovered the body.
While the exact reason behind the girl’s death is yet to be ascertained, the police have sent the body for autopsy.
