Ganjam: ASI of Police arrested by Odisha Vigilance on corruption charges

Berhampur: The ASI of Police Bhejiput Outpost under Khalikote Police limits in Ganjam district of Odisha was arrested today by Odisha Vigilance while accepting Rs 3,000 bribe.

As per reports, Manas Kumar Rout, ASI of Police, Bhejiput Out-post under Khalikote Police Station, Dist-Ganjam was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance for demanding and accepting undue advantage of Rs.3, 000 from the complainant to help him in a case earlier registered in Khalikote Police Station.

Based on the above complaint, a trap was laid on Tuesday wherein the accused Manas Kumar Rout, ASI was caught by the team of Odisha Vigilance near a Tea stall located in front of the Out-post while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.3,000 from the complainant.

The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Rout and seized in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Rout gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, reads a release by the Vigilance Department.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented house and office room of Rout at Bhejiput, Khalikote and his Govt quarter at Puri.

Accused Manas Kumar Rout has been arrested and will be forwarded to the Court. In this connection, Berhampur Vigilance P.S. Case No.7 dated 06.06.2022 U/s 7 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and the case is under investigation.
