Former Lanjigarh MLA Shivaji Majhi resigns from Congress

Bhawanipatna: In what can be considered as yet another blow for the Congress party in Western Odisha, former Lanjigarh MLA Shivaji Majhi resigned from the grand old party on Saturday.

Majhi is said to have sent his resignation letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief Niranjan Patnaik through an email.

Majhi had joined the Congress party in 2007. He then contested the 2009 Assembly election and won from the Lanjigarh constituency in the Kalahandi district.

However, he was allegedly rejected by the party after he lost the election in 2019. He was not called for any activities of the party. He is said to have cited this and his personal issues as the reason behind his resignation from the Congress party.

Earlier also there were several reports of Shivaji Majhi leaving Congress and joining another political party.

The former Lanjigarh MLA’s resignation came hours after another heavyweight of Congress party and former Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi joined the state ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
