Fire breaks out in Pasupalaka forest in Puri, hundreds of trees lost

Puri: A vast stretch of forest cover was wiped out in a major fire which broke out in Brahmagiri area of Puri district last night.

The blaze erupted in Pasupalaka forest very late in the night and was spotted by some locals. They immediately launched firefighting efforts and later called up forest officials for help.

However, over 20 acres of forest land was razed till forest and fire officials could reach the spot.

Firefighting efforts were on in the forest till this report was being filed.

Efforts are underway to check the flames from spreading further in the forest, said a forest department source.
