Kalahandi: Tension ran high in Kalampur area in Kalahandi district today following a road blockade by farmers protesting lack of paddy procurement at ‘Mandi’ functioning at Tehsil office.
Scores of farmers thronged the Junagarh Kalampur Road in the morning and sat there by parking paddy-laden tractors for hours. By resorting to sloganeering against the alleged discrepancy in paddy procurement at the ‘Mandi’ they sought administration’s attending.
The agitating farmers claimed that the monsoon is approaching and if the paddy is not lifted at the ‘Mandi’ on an urgent basis then they could incur heavy loss.
As a result of the blockade hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road posing a tough time for commuters.
Police had arrived at the spot and was trying to pacify the agitators to restore traffic movement on the road till this report was being filed.
