Forest officials have successfully and safely captured the elephant that had strayed into human habitation in Jajpur district and created havoc.

Jajpur: Forest officials have successfully and safely captured the elephant that had strayed into human habitation in Jajpur district and created havoc.

According to reports, the wild elephant was seen moving in Bhandari Pokhari of Bhadrak district yesterday. It then reached the Dasarathpur block of Jajpur district today and continuously roamed in different panchayats creating panic among the locals. It also damaged the crops and property of some people in the area.

On being informed, the forest employees reached the area and successfully captured it after tranquilizing it on Barikul Road near Adaita Sahi with the help of a special team from Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar.

Later, it was lifted with the help of a crane and put in a truck, said sources adding that the elephant will be taken to Nandankanan.

Meanwhile, IFS officer Susanta Nanda hailed the hard work of forest officials. “The team did a great job in rescuing the elephant from the sea of humans at Jajpur today. For the crowd it was circus. For our team it was one of the most arduous task. Kudos to the team for an exceptional professional job,” he said on his X handle.
