Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested at least seven transgenders for stripping naked and attacking a monk at his ‘ashram’ in Khandagiri area in the city yesterday.

Police took action on the culprits after lodging a suo motu case as no official complaint from the ashram’s side has been filed in the incident so far.

As per the complaint, at least a dozen of transgenders broke into the Khandagiri ashram of the victim monk identified as ‘Naga Baba’ last afternoon and stripped him naked. Later they dragged him for a few distance in full public view and trashed brutally. While the whole incident occurred closed to Jaydev Vatika, no passer-by reached out to help the monk due to fear.

However, the incident came to light after a commuter plucked up his courage and filmed the whole incident on his mobile and later made it viral on social media.

While the transgenders have defended their act by claiming that the monk and his associates had misbehaved with them, the locals have rubbished it.

Locals have instead claimed that, the monk was opposing a sex racket which was being run by the transgenders near Khandagiri Square for years. After police conducted a raid in the area a few days ago and drove away the transgenders, they avenged the action by attacking on the monk last afternoon.
