CMC conducts raid at Reliance Fresh outlet in Cuttack

Cuttack: A team of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Friday night conducted a raid at the Reliance Fresh outlet at Kanika Chhak in the city. Reportedly, it has been alleged that the Reliance store has been selling synthetic eggs to the customers.

Based on the allegation, CMC conducted the raid to inspect the eggs in the store. Many eggs were found to be destroyed as those were not fresh enough to be consumed.

The CMC also seized a number of vegetables and some items from the store which were suspected not to be fresh.

CMC have been conducting raid at various stores in view of inspecting the food items as since past few days huge quantity of rotten eggs have been found from different places in Cuttack.

“We have sent the eggs, which were sold at the Reliance Fresh outlet, for laboratory test. We are yet to receive the test report,” said CMC Health Officer.

The Health Officer further informed that some stale eggs were seized during raids today and strict action will be taken against the concerned retailer under the Food Safety Act in case the allegation of sale of synthetic eggs is proved to be true.

Meanwhile, the concerned official of this Reliance Fresh outlet could not give any satisfactory explanation nor could show any purchase bills for the eggs.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier this month, about 2400 rotten eggs which were being transported from Athagarh for being supplied to a bakery unit in Santa Sahi, were seized by CMC.
