Choudwar minor rape case: POCSO Court awards lifer to man

Cuttack: The special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) Court in Cuttack on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a man on the charge of committing rape to a minor girl in Odisha. A fine of Rs. 10,000 was also imposed on him.

As per reports, the man was the accused person of a case in which a 7 year old tribal girl had been raped under Choudwar Police limits in Odisha on September 14, 2018.
The accused person who was convicted today is Mayadhar Purti of Ramchandrapur in Choudwar town.

As per reports, on the fateful day in 2018 during the Ganesha immersion procession in the village, the victim, who was playing with her friends, was taken into the forest by Mayadhar. There the minor girl was raped.

After the victim narrated her ordeal to her family members, they filed a complaint at Choudwar Police station seeking justice for the culprit and punishment for the culprit. Police registered a case and arrested Mayadhar Purti on the 22nd of that month.

Issuing the verdict in this case, today Cuttack Special POCSO Court awarded life imprisonment to Mayadhar. A sum of Rs 10,000 was also fined.

Besides, the Court issued directive for a sum of Rs 5 lakh compensation for the victim. It will be carried out through the District Legal Services Authority.

The Court awarded the sentence after recording statement of 17 witnesses and taking into account 11 pieces of evidences.

Public prosecutor Ramesh Chandra Mohanty was conducting the case in the POCSO Court.
