Centre allocates Odisha’s Jamkhani coal block to Vedanta Ltd

Bhubaneswar: The Coal Ministry on Thursday approved allocation of five coal blocks after a long gap of four years.

While Jamkhani coal block in Odisha was allocated to Vedanta Ltd, Bhaskarpara coal mine in Chhattisgarh was granted to Prakash Industries Limited.

Likewise, Birla Corporation received allocation for Bikram coal mine and Brahampuri coal mine in Madhya Pradesh, while Powerplus Traders Pvt Ltd got Jagannathpur B coal mine in West Bengal.

For the first time, the successful bidders shall have the flexibility to sell 25 per cent of the coal produce in open market.

Jamkhani coal block is the second coal block of Vedanta Ltd after Chotia coal block in Chhattisgarh having an annual capacity of over 1 million tonnes.
