Dhenkanal: Normal came to a standstill in Bhuban area of Dhenkanal district today following a 12-hour bandh by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) pressing for fulfillment of an 8-point charter of demands including sub-division status for the Bhuban NAC.
Vehicular movement was disrupted following the bandh which started at around 6 AM in the morning and will continue till 6 PM in the evening. While plying of buses was interrupted during the bandh commuters faced a tough time and opted to depend on two-wheeler.
Educational institutions including schools, colleges and coaching centres along with business establishment also remained closed in view of any untoward incident very likely during the bandh.
Activists of BJYM, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing staged a road blockade at Kalibazar Chhak on NH-53 causing traffic snarl as hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway.
Along with the sub-division status, BJYM seeks repairing and widening of all roads in Bhuban NAC, construction of concrete road from Anantpur Chhak to Tarini Chhak, a permanent stadium for the area among other demands.
