Deogarh: Traffic flow came to a standstill on the National Highway-49 in Deogarh today following a 12-hour bandh call given by BJP along it protesting the delay in road repairing.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway and road communication between Sambalpur and Deogarh was completely disrupted due to the bandh which started at 6 am in the morning and will continue till 6 pm.
Deogarh MLA Subash Chandra Panigrahi, who led the highway shutdown, alleged that despite repeatedly appeal the administration is doing nothing to repair Sambalpur-Deogarh and Deogarh-Palalhara stretch of road which results in regular accidents.
Similarly, a private company engaged in the repairing work is resorting to substandard work making the situation even worse, he added.
BJP has demanded immediate repair of the highway to save lives.
