7 cops put under suspension for Maoist Manoj Madkami’s court escape

Nuapada: Initiating action against the guilty officials, Nuapada Police on Tuesday suspended at least seven police personnel including two Assistant Sub-Inspectors from their duties in connection with the dreaded Maoist Manoj Madkami’s escape from Nuapada SDJM court premise, yesterday.

Those cops who have been put under suspension for dereliction of duty are, Pankaj Tandi, Pushpalata Sunani, Bholanath Majhi, Mahusudan Majhi, Laxman Sabar, Harishankar Sabar and Pantabai Nayak.

Madkami, who was carrying a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh and had been arrested by police on May 30 managed to escape from police custody by jumping the boundary wall of Nuapada SDJM court yesterday. He managed to give cops a slip while being produced at the court.

As resident of Bijapur in Chhattisgarh, Madkami remained active in Bargarh-Bolangir-Mahasumund Maoist division as an area committee member till his arrest. A number of cases including murder, torching of vehicles and firing at police teams have been pending against him.
