3 engineering students drown in Puri

Puri: In a tragic incident, three engineering students died after drowning in the sea near Pir Jahania shrine in Astaranga of Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, two others were rescued from the sea by the locals.

The deceased students have been identified as Abinash Pradhan, Amit Mohanty and Subhasaumya Senapati.

According to reports, a group of five students of a Bhubaneswar-based private engineering college had gone for a picnic near the seashore of Astarang this morning.

They incident occurred, when they were taking bath in the sea. They ventured deep and when the high tides hit them, they could not recover and were swept away.

Locals present could only manage to rescue three of the five ashore. They were rushed to Astarang hospital and later shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar in a critical condition. One of them was declared brought dead at the Capital hospital, sources said.

On being informed, Fire Services personnel from Astarang reached the spot and recovered bodies of two deceased, police said.
