Patient killed after falling off AIIMS building in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Putting a serious question mark on the safety and security of Patients at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, a patient died after falling off the 6th floor of its building today.

The deceased has been identified as Satyajit Mohanty of Jakara village of Khordha district.

Satyajit, who had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the government medical facility two days back fell through the windowpane of the ICU due to some reason in the wee hours and died on the spot.

Soon after the incident, family members of the deceased alleged weak safety arrangement in the ICU, which is claimed to have been equipped with tough security personnel and put under strict surveillance by staff.

While it is still not clear under what circumstances the victim fell off the building, the AIIMs authorities have also suspected it to be a case of suicide. Mohanty, who had been admitted to the facility after falling ill due to excess consumption of alcohol was reluctant to stay there, they informed.

The Commissionerate Police has started an investigation into the incident of late and said the truth will be revealed soon.
