13-ft-long King Cobra Rescued From Village Near Similipal Sanctuary

Baripada: The snake helpline rescued a 13-ft-long King Cobra from a Bamboo forest at Chandanchaturi village near Similipal Wildlife sanctuary in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.

According to reports, some villagers spotted the snake in a bamboo forest on the outer periphery of the village. The presence of the gigantic deadly reptile triggered panic among the residents. However, wasting no time the villagers immediately informed the forest department about the presence of the king cobra in the village.

After receiving information, Forest officials along with snake helpline team reached the village and rescued the snake. A medical examination was conducted to ascertain the reptile’s health conditions. Later on, the king cobra was released in the Sijupani Canal at Similipal Sanctuary.

Noteworthy, the incident comes after a 19-ft-long king cobra was rescued from a house at Balipal village near Similipal wildlife sanctuary in December 2018.
