WFI office shifts from ex-president Brij Bhushan’s residence following sports ministry’s strong criticism

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been shifted its office from the residence of former WFI president Brij Bhusan Sharan Singh.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been shifted its office from the residence of former WFI president Brij Bhusan Sharan Singh following the Sports Ministry’s criticism.

It is worth mentioning here that the Sports Ministry recently suspended the newly-elected WFI president Sanjay Singh, a close associate of Brij Bhushan. The sports ministry later asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form a temporary panel to run the federation.

Sources said a letter has been sent to the IOA, proposing that the temporary committee be entrusted with overseeing and regulating WFI’s operations, including the responsibility for athlete selection.

Following the suspension, former WFI president Brij Bhushan said that he has cut ties with the sport and does not have anything to do with the newly elected body getting suspended by the Sports Ministry.

Earlier, the Sports Ministry had issued a letter stating, “Sanjay Kumar Singh, newly elected President of Wrestling Federation of India announced on 21.12.2023, the day he was elected as president, that U-15 and U-20 nationals for Wrestling will take place in Nandini Nagar, Gonda (UP) before the end of this year.”

“This announcement is hasty, without giving sufficient notice to wrestlers who are to take part in the said nationals and without following the provisions of the constitution of WFI,” the letter further read.
